Approval of samples and import of measuring instruments . To import electronic scales, medical scales, truck scales, and other measuring equipment, the first thing you need to do is check if the measuring equipment you are importing is included in the List of Measuring Instruments, Measurement Control Measures, and Measurement Calibration Cycles ( Circular 23/2013/TT-BKHCN dated September 26, 2013) . If the measuring instrument you are importing is included in this list, you must obtain sample approval for the shipment. This means that the State agency will evaluate and confirm whether the measuring instrument or sample conforms to the technical requirements of measurement regulations. Only after sample approval can customs clearance be granted.

Import procedure for measuring equipment (electronic scales) and sample approval:

• Sample approval is a metrology control measure carried out by the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality to evaluate and confirm that a sample of a measuring instrument or a sample of a type of measuring instrument (hereinafter referred to as sample) conforms to metrology technical requirements.
• In short, to put it simply: model approval is the licensing process for scales to be circulated and used in Vietnam. The scales must comply with Vietnamese quality standards (TCVN). If they meet the standards, the importing or manufacturing company will be granted a certificate of "Decision on the approval of the measuring instrument model".
• The types of scales that require Model Approval are listed below. Please check if your scale is included in that category. (Note: common electronic scales with a platform are classified as Platform Scales).
