PROCEDURE FOR PACKING/UNLOADING CARGO AT PORT
Why do we have to close the goods at the port?
Packing at the port, also known as spreading the packing yard, is the option chosen by many export businesses today. For businesses that do not have their own warehouse or have a warehouse too far from the port, packing at the port is the most optimal option. If you have to pull the empty container back to the warehouse to pack the goods, instead, packing at the port saves a lot of costs and time for transporting goods, ensuring that there is no delay in cutting the goods.
In case the export goods are provided by many different shippers, the most perfect choice is to pack the goods at the port. The goods will be gathered at the port at the same time, all the goods will be packed into containers and completed in 1 day. All goods will have workers, forklifts, conveyor belts and cranes suitable for all packing needs of each shipper.

The cargo handling process at the port is as follows:
Step 1: Request booking and approve empty container order.
Approve the order to issue empty containers. Some shipping lines accept approval via email, some approve at the office, some shipping lines do not need to approve the order and can bring the booking to the port to pick up the container, the information on the booking is specific and detailed.
Step 2: Proceed to pay for the parking lot.
Bring approved order & booking to contact port business to pay and withdraw goods.
Note: report and pay according to the packing method: manual, forklift or crane because the fees are different.
Step 3: Register for empty pick-up date and time:
Contact the dispatcher to register for an empty container, usually 1 day before the loading day. If you wait until the loading day to register for a container, in many cases there will be no container or the container will not be as good as expected, it will take time to wait and there is a possibility that the cargo will not be loaded in time and the ship will be lost.
Step 4: Receive and check the container.
After having the container number, you get the ship seal and need to carefully check the quality of the container: sieve, roof, corners, edges... inside and outside the container, you need to take pictures of the condition of the container before packing the goods, especially for cold goods, you need to close the door slightly to see if there is a small light coming in, if there is, the container is punctured. If the container is bad, you must ask to change to another container to ensure your goods. (Note: The port only provides empty containers for packing 1 day in advance, not providing containers too long in advance to avoid congestion at the port's packing yard).
Step 5: Contact and proceed with packing
Contact the port dispatcher to arrange workers, forklifts or cranes. This is a very important step. If you have packed a certain type of goods before, then it is fine, but if it is your first time packing, you must be very careful and pay attention to the following:
- Calculate to pack the goods in the most optimal way. Do not leave excess goods after packing. (If there is excess goods compared to the regulations, take them all out and pack them again, which is both time-consuming and costly).
- Calculate how to pack the goods in the safest way: do not let the goods fall and break in the container during transportation. Distribute the weight evenly in the container, avoid imbalance in the container causing danger during loading and unloading. In many cases, additional fees are charged due to this problem.
- Check the quantity of goods while packing to ensure that the correct quantity is received and packed. Check if the goods are damaged, and take pictures/videos and notify the customer (owner) (because the owner always writes in the minutes that the goods are in their original packaging and packaging) if you are not careful, they will hold you responsible.
- Make sure the goods are not stolen during packing. If the goods are easily lost and the quantity is large, you need 1-2 more people to observe.

Step 6: After packing, bring packing list down and VGM informs port dispatcher to import the machine.
Step 7: Liquidation, entry into ship's book.
