AD Ports Group Acquires Strategic Stake in Alexandria Port in EGP 13.2 Billion Deal

AD Ports Group (UAE) has announced a significant step in its international port network expansion strategy. Accordingly, the group has officially acquired a 19.328% stake previously held by the Saudi Egyptian Investment Company (SEIC) in Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Company (ALCN).
The transaction is valued at approximately 13.2 billion Egyptian Pounds (EGP). This move aims to bolster AD Ports Group's growing presence in Egypt's maritime and logistics sector, while reaffirming the group's strategic interest in key ports along the Mediterranean coast.
Profile of ALCN
This acquisition marks another large-scale expansion for AD Ports Group across the region. Established in 1984 and listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange since 1995, ALCN is one of the country's largest and oldest container terminal operators.
ALCN currently operates two key terminals on the Mediterranean coast, located in Alexandria and El-Dekheilla. In the 2024–25 financial year, these two facilities handled a total throughput of 1.07 million TEUs.
Boasting approximately 1.6 km of quay wall and direct access to Egypt’s national railway network, these terminals offer robust multimodal connectivity for global shipping lines and regional trade flows.
Strategic Vision from Leadership
Commenting on the significance of this deal, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, said: "By acquiring a stake in ALCN, we are expanding our operational footprint in one of the world’s most critical maritime routes. This investment supports our efforts to facilitate trade through this vital corridor, while deepening our partnerships and expanding our investments in Egypt. This is fully aligned with the directives of our wise leadership to drive economic diversification, strengthen regional integration, and deliver long-term value for our stakeholders."
