As supply chains face uncertainty, Port of Los Angeles sets record January volume
The Port of Los Angeles posted record January container volume, up 8% year-over-year, reflecting economic growth and import trends ahead of the Lunar New Year.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding the global supply chain, U.S. seaports continue to record container volumes.
The Port of Los Angeles handled 924,245 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in January, up 8% year-over-year, marking the busiest start in the port’s 117-year history.
“This January milestone adds to a great run of strong volume, with the last seven months averaging more than 927,000 container units,” Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka said in a press release. “A strong economy, along with importers bringing in cargo as a hedge against tariffs and ahead of Lunar New Year, were key factors in January. We continue to move these record-breaking volumes quickly and efficiently, without ship delays.”
Containerized imports in January totaled 483,831 TEUs, up 9.5% from 2024. Exports, meanwhile, totaled 113,271 TEUs, down 10.5% from the same month last year.
The port handled 327,143 empty containers, up 14% from 2024, signaling an increase in import volume in the coming time.
