Baltic Dry Index Surges, Led by Rate Gains Across All Vessel Segments
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) rose to its highest level in over a week in yesterday's session, thanks to a simultaneous improvement in rates across all vessel segments, particularly Capesize.

The Baltic Exchange's main dry bulk freight index (BDI) climbed to its highest level in over a week in yesterday's session, Tuesday (Aug 26), supported by rising rates across all vessel segments.
Specifically, the BDI added 97 points, or 5%, to reach the 2,041-point mark, its highest since August 15.
The growth was primarily led by the largest vessel segment:
• The Capesize index surged 238 points, or 8.5%, to 3,031. Average daily earnings for a Capesize vessel also increased by $1,980 to $25,140.
• The Panamax index gained 48 points, or 2.7%, to 1,818 – its highest since July 25. Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels rose by $431 to $16,363.
• For smaller vessels, the Supramax index also registered a gain of 13 points, or 0.9%, to 1,437.
In an analyst note, experts from Jefferies stated: "Spot iron ore activity appears to be driving spot gains this week with Chinese demand from both Australia and Brazil lifting the market higher."
However, in a contrasting development, iron ore futures were rather subdued. The reason is that new tariff threats from the United States have raised concerns about the future demand outlook for the commodity.
