Chittagong Port requires inbound containers to be sealed with bullet seals

The Chittagong Port Authority has mandated the use of bullet seals for all imported cargo containers, effective December 1, to ensure the cargo is not damaged or loss when docking, unloading and transporting to factories.
The Chittagong Port Authority said it could refuse to accept the containers and refuse to unload at the piers unless they are sealed with bullet seals.
The Port Authority observed that most of the imported containers loaded with goods being loaded and unloaded at Chittagong port have security seals with original plastic/metal strip security seals at the ports of loading, which are easily broken and weak, easily broken, causing The goods inside are at risk of damage or loss, which is very disturbing and inconvenient for the consuming parties.
“The bullet seals, on the other hand, are found to be better, convenient and durable,” the Chittagong Port Authority said in a statement last week.
“With the necessity of ensuring the security of the cargo of such boxes against any possible loss or damage, it has been decided that bullet seals, instead of plastic/metallic steel ones, are to be used in the laden import containers,” the Chittagong Port Authority announced.
Meanwhile, the government has long tried to mandate the use of bullet seals for export containers as well as on the way out of docks and ports from factories to prevent cargo theft on the road.
Garment manufacturers regularly report that they have their materials/goods stolen from containers and trucks on the way to and from factories and ports/harbours by being unlocked/sealed.
As a result, they face financial losses and buyers are frustrated by incidents that tarnish the image of the country and the industry.
Muntasir Rubayat, head of operations at GBX Logistics Ltd, said the use of mortar seals for imported containers was a de facto rule. “We have already circulated it to transshipment ports to comply with the requirement,” he noted, adding that carriers were also notified.
