CMA CGM Announces Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Asia - North Europe Trade
CMA CGM has announced the implementation of a $250/TEU Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo moving from Asia to North Europe starting December 29, 2025.
Major container carrier CMA CGM has issued a notice regarding the application of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for westbound cargo from Asia to North Europe, officially effective from December 29, 2025.
The surcharge will apply to cargo loaded at all origin ports in Asia, including Japan, Southeast Asia, and Bangladesh, and discharged at ports across North Europe. The destination scope includes the United Kingdom as well as the full range of ports from Portugal to Finland and Estonia.
According to the carrier, the PSS will apply to all cargo types, including:
• Dry cargo
• Out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments
• Paying empty containers
• Refrigerated cargo (Reefer)
CMA CGM stated that the surcharge will become effective based on the date of loading at the origin ports and will remain in place until further notice. The rate is set at $250 per TEU.
This PSS will be applicable to all freight agreements with a validity exceeding 30 days. According to the carrier, this move aims to maintain service reliability and operational efficiency amidst peak demand levels on the Asia – North Europe trade lane.
