CMA CGM Group restructures trans-Pacific network
CMA CGM Group has decided to drop its APL brand in the trans-Pacific service network and the French container line will become its exclusive transport brand on this route from October 1, 2020.
The French shipping group believes that with the expertise and experience of CMA CGM, they will be able to serve their customers more effectively and focus on providing complete, appropriate solutions in the transpacific market.
Therefore, APL will focus entirely on serving the US Government as a long-term transportation service partner. It will leverage its experience in providing US flag services to strengthen and enhance the group's specialization in this "critical business segment". APL will also continue its service on the Guam-Pacific Island shipping route.
"This simplification reinforces the group's number one position in the United States while allowing us to build upon APL's rich heritage of operations of the US flag fleet and service to the Government. US Government, "said Ed Aldridge, president of CMA CGM and APL in the United States.
CMA CGM Group has also announced its development in Singapore. The current CMA CGM regional office and Neptune Orient Lines Limited (NOL) will be redesigned to be a major regional hub starting October 1, while NOL will be renamed to CMA CGM Asia Pacific Limited.
The new Asia-Pacific Center of the CMA CGM Group will oversee the management of shipping routes of all exports from Asia via CMA CGM, as well as short-haul transit services in the Asia region through the regional brand of CNC shipping lines.
The Singapore-based center will promote the development of CMA CGM in the Asia-Pacific region and will focus on providing end-to-end logistics and transportation solutions.
In addition, the shipping line ANL - ANL Container Line Pty. Limited - will become a subsidiary of CMA CGM Asia Pacific Limited as part of this development.
"The reorganization of the trans-Pacific transport route will keep our global service network more efficient and diverse," said Stéphane Courquin, head of CMA CGM Asia Pacific.
With this new arrangement, the Group announced that it wanted to simplify its brand strategy, with CMA CGM being a global shipping service provider and subsidiaries supporting development in specialized markets. The difference is as follows:
APL: the shipping line specializing in transporting goods to the US Government
ANL: the leading shipping company in Oceania, this is also its core market
CNC: the shipping company specializing in short-haul transport routes within Asia.
Mercosul Lines: the shipping line carrying services along the Brazilian coast
Containerships: the leading shipping company in multimodal transport in Europe.
