CMA CGM spends $2.5 billion to order 12 18,000 TEU container ships running on LNG dual fuel at Jiangnan (China) factory, with expected delivery date in 2028-2029.

France's CMA CGM shipping group has just signed a contract to build a series of new container ships in China.
The Marseille-based shipping giant is said to be the owner behind the order for 12 18,000 TEU container ships using LNG dual fuel at Jiangnan Shipyard of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSSC).
The order comes shortly after the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) proposed imposing a fee of up to $1.5 million for each port call by a China-built vessel in the United States.
The contract is valued at $2.5 billion to $2.6 billion, with deliveries scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
This is CMA CGM’s second large containership order this year, following a $2.6 billion order for 12 18,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea.
Under the leadership of Rodolphe Saadé, CMA CGM is now closely following Maersk in the rankings of the world’s largest shipping lines. The group built the world's first LNG-powered container ships with a capacity of 23,000 TEUs at Jiangnan, and more ships are expected to be delivered from the yard in 2025 and 2026.
