CMA CGM to Acquire Stake in Hamburg Container Terminal

The CMA CGM Group announced an agreement to acquire a stake in EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH), a strategic move aimed at expanding its global infrastructure portfolio, reinforcing its presence in one of Northern Europe's most critical maritime hubs, and supporting a major expansion project at the port.

The CMA CGM Group has just announced a significant strategic move: the acquisition of a stake in EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH). The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2026, pending approval from regulatory authorities.

CMA CGM is already a regular customer at CTH, particularly through its iconic FAL service, which connects Asia and Northern Europe using 23,000 TEU capacity LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)-powered container vessels.

Expanding the Global Infrastructure Portfolio

This strategic investment perfectly aligns with the CMA CGM Group’s strategy to expand its infrastructure portfolio to support its global shipping network, particularly within the European market.

As an international port operator with interests in 64 terminals worldwide, the CMA CGM Group is reinforcing its presence in Hamburg - one of Northern Europe's vital maritime centers. This move will not only help the carrier enhance the efficiency of its shipping and logistics services but also contribute to more resilient and lower-carbon supply chains across the region.

This support is further enhanced by EUROGATE’s direct rail connection to EUROKOMBI, Germany's largest intermodal terminal.

Partnering with the Port of Hamburg's Expansion Project

This partnership also lends support to EUROGATE’s Western Extension project at the Hamburg terminal. The project is set to expand the facilities by approximately 38 hectares and add around 1,050 meters of new quay space.

The expansion is designed to accommodate the next generation of container vessels and increase the terminal’s capacity from roughly 4 million TEU to nearly 6 million TEU, while simultaneously modernizing and improving the operational efficiency and intermodal connections of the existing areas.

By becoming a shareholder, the CMA CGM Group is proactively contributing to this long-term development, solidifying Hamburg's position as a leading maritime hub in Northern Europe.
