CMA CGM Welcomes 400th Owned Vessel: A Methanol Milestone with the 'Mega-Vessel' CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO
The CMA CGM Group has officially taken delivery of the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO, marking the 400th vessel in its owned fleet. This is the first in a series of six 15,000 TEU Methanol-powered vessels, set to officially operate on the BEX2 service connecting North Asia and the Mediterranean starting in late January 2026.

The CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air, and logistics solutions, has proudly announced the addition of its 400th owned vessel, named the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO, to its fleet. This vessel is the first in a series of six Methanol-fueled container ships, marking a significant step forward in the Group's strategy.
This pivotal milestone reflects the Group’s long-term investment strategy, built upon asset ownership and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to enhance the fleet's environmental and operational performance.
The Mark of the Owned Fleet
With the arrival of the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO, the Group has hit the 400-owned-vessel mark, part of a total fleet of over 650 vessels operating globally.
Regarding technical specifications, this container "mega-vessel" boasts a maximum capacity of 16,204 TEU, including approximately 1,000 reefer plugs (connections for refrigerated containers). The ship is massive, measuring 366 meters in length and 51 meters in width, and will sail under the Malta flag.
The vessel's operating team consists of 23 crew members under the command of Captain Predrag Vojvodic. The ship is designed to meet high standards of safety, comfort, and living conditions.
Methanol: At the Heart of the Decarbonization Roadmap
The CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO becomes the 11th Methanol-powered containership in CMA CGM's fleet, out of a total of 24 vessels of this type currently on order.
With a commitment to reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2050, the CMA CGM Group is deploying the best available solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of its maritime transport and logistics operations. The Group is preparing to operate approximately 200 dual-fuel vessels (running on LNG and Methanol) by 2031 – ships capable of operating on low-carbon energy.
Deployment on the North Asia – Mediterranean Route
Built at DSIC Tianjin Shipyard, the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO held its naming ceremony on January 21, 2026, in Tianjin, with Ms. Liu Liping, Deputy General Manager of EPPEN BIOTECH, serving as the godmother.
Regarding commercial operations, the vessel will officially enter service on January 29, 2026, in Ningbo. It will join the BEX2 – Phoenician Express service, taking on the role of connecting North Asia with the Levant (Eastern Mediterranean) and the Adriatic Sea.
