Container supply chain disruptions could affect shipments until Christmas
Although the Ever Given vessel can resume sailing from the Suez Canal and Yantian Port has returned to service, China's Covid-19 control efforts could affect shipments until Christmas, Project44 warns.

Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) said it is now back to normal, handling about 40,000 teu a day across about 20 berths. However, the impact of the disruption, which Maersk says is much larger than the Ever Given vessel blocking the Suez Canal, continues to be felt at ports across southern China with high periods of disruption, according to Project44.
"The data suggests that disruptions related to China's Covid-19 quarantine efforts could extend into the year, affecting seasonal shipments through Christmas," the analyst said.
Average dwell times are seven days at Yantian. In which, the waiting time for loading goods for export (POL) is 12.9 days, while the waiting time for unloading goods (POD) is 4.2 days.
Project44 notes that the high wait times indicate the port is still up and running but on its way to having to release a large backlog of cargo last month. Many factories are also reported to have halted production due to shortages of shipping space, which is foreshadowing supply chain bottlenecks for months to come.
