COSCO SHIPPING Receives Delivery of 3 New Multipurpose Pulp Carriers

COSCO SHIPPING accelerates the development of its multipurpose pulp carrier fleet, with the launch of three new vessels, affirming its pioneering role in the global pulp supply chain and transportation.

On August 21, two 62,000 DWT multipurpose pulp carriers “COSCO SHIPPING JI XIANG” and "COSCO SHIPPING RU YI" were christened at Shandong Huanghai Shipyard.

Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Lin Shijian, CEO of Haihan Capital; Lin Ji, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING; Zhao Jianping, Chairman of Huanghai Shipyard; Guo Jinkui, Chairman of Seacon Shipping Group were present at the naming ceremony where they addressed the audience. The ships were named by their godmothers, Ms. Leung Tong Ching-yee and Ms. Lam Fong Shu-ming, who respectively carried out the honors.

The two ships “COSCO SHIPPING JI XIANG” and “COSCO SHIPPING RU YI” are the 21st and 22nd ships in the series of 62,000 DWT multipurpose pulp carriers of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers. The ships are 201.8 meters long, 32.26 meters wide and 19.3 meters deep, with a range of 22,000 nautical miles. The cargo holds of the ships have a capacity of about 72,000 cubic meters. The ships are specially designed to carry pulp, with a dehumidification system in the cargo holds to ensure the quality of the cargo. On deck, the two vessels are also equipped with two 100-ton single cranes and a 100-ton x 2 combination crane set, with a maximum lifting capacity of 195 tons, enhancing cargo handling efficiency and productivity. The main and auxiliary engines of the vessels are both equipped with SCR systems, complying with the NOx TIER III emission standards and receiving certification for smart and green ecological ships.

In addition, on August 22, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ ninth 77,000 DWT multi-purpose pulp carrier, “GREEN MUNGUBA,” was christened and delivered in Dalian. It is the world’s largest series of pulp carrier special-purpose vessels.

Guests from the Bank of Transport, Bank of Transport Leasing Company, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, Dalian Branch of China Classification Society, Huayang Marine Center, and Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute attended the ceremony. The ship was named by Ms. Liu Suwen.

The “GREEN MUNGUBA” is 225.0 meters long, 32.26 meters wide and 21.0 meters deep, with a design speed of 15 knots and a range of up to 25,000 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with container holds and a rotating dehumidification system, ensuring the quality and safety of pulp cargo. In addition to serving the needs of pulp transportation, the ship is also capable of carrying high-speed trains, wind power equipment, new electric vehicles, large machinery and long and heavy steel pipe structures. To ensure the safety of electric vehicle transportation, this series of ships has deployed a “one-to-one” temperature monitoring and early warning system.

It is known that the “GREEN MUNGUBA” will embark on its first voyage on the Southwest American route, transporting containers and construction machinery from domestic ports to Peru and Chile.
