COSCO SHIPPING uses 20,000 TEU ships to call at La Spezia port
This decision by COSCO Shipping is to adapt to the new situation, stemming from the fact that ships have to go around Africa.
Starting in March, COSCO Shipping's 20,000 TEU container ships will begin calling regularly at the Italian port of La Spezia.
The Chinese shipping line recently announced this news, confirming the inclusion of four ships of this type in the rotation of the Asia-Mediterranean Service (AEM1).
Each vessel is approximately 400 meters long.
This decision was taken in response to the need to adapt to a new normal, due to the need to bypass Africa, leading to the creation of two new independent shipping routes in the Mediterranean, using container ships with larger capacity.
“We are proud and ready to welcome the COSCO SHIPPING Aries, the first in a series of ultra-large container vessels deployed in the AEM1 (MED1) service operated by the Chinese carrier within the Ocean Alliance,” commented Matteo Ferrando, Key Account Manager at Contship Italia.
“Our terminal has already demonstrated its ability to handle this type of container ship, thus reaffirming our commitment to meeting every need and delivering the service excellence that our customers expect.” Mr. Ferrando added.
