Drewry’s Intra-Asia Index (IACI) Dips Slightly in Early 2026: Rebound Forecasted Soon
Drewry’s Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) recorded a 2% decline in the first week of January, falling to $700/FEU. However, experts predict the market will soon witness a rebound due to space scarcity pressures amidst an extended peak season..webp)
According to the latest data from maritime research consultancy Drewry, the Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) dipped slightly by 2% in the first week of January, retreating to $700 per 40-foot container (FEU).
The IACI - a weighted average of spot rates on 18 major trade routes within the Asian region - is currently tracking 15% lower compared to the same period last year (year-on-year).
Market Outlook: Upward Price Pressure Returning
Despite recording a slight decline in the opening week of the new year, Drewry offers a forecast regarding the short-term trend. The consultancy expects freight rates to register a slight increase in the coming weeks.
This is primarily attributed to tight capacity conditions amidst an extended peak season, as demand for intra-regional cargo transport remains robust.
