GFS, RCL, and TS Lines Launch New Far East – Red Sea Service
Three regional carriers have joined forces to open a direct route connecting China's major export hubs with the Red Sea, featuring slot purchases by Evergreen, aimed at quenching the capacity thirst on this heating trade lane.
Global Feeder Shipping (GFS), Regional Container Lines (RCL), and TS Lines have officially announced a joint collaboration to operate a new service loop connecting the Far East and the Red Sea. This move opens a new direct transport corridor linking major Chinese export centers with critical gateway ports in the Red Sea region.
Notably, Evergreen Line will also participate in this service through a slot charter arrangement under the brand name OGRD.
Service Structure and Rotation
The new service will commence with a fortnightly rotation, deploying vessels with a capacity of 3,000 TEU.
The detailed port rotation includes: Shanghai – Qingdao – Nansha – Shekou – Jeddah – Sokhna – Aqaba – Jeddah – and returning to Shanghai.
Driven by Market Demand
The launch of this service aims to address the rapidly growing demand for cargo transportation into the Red Sea region. Market analysis indicates strong growth in consumer goods, machinery, and construction materials being shipped to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Additionally, the service offers transshipment opportunities via the Port of Jeddah, one of the region's fastest-growing logistics hubs.
This development reflects the increasing interest among regional carriers in expanding capacity on the China – Red Sea route, a market where demand has outstripped the supply of existing services over the past year.
