Handbag exports have surged by more than 468% in Nigeria
Handbag exports increased sharply in Nigeria market, up 468.4%, reaching USD 5.42 million.
According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, bags, suitcases and umbrellas exported to foreign markets in the first 5 months of 2020 reached over USD 1.28 billion, down 14.5% compared to with the first 5 months of 2019.
Particularly in May 2020, the turnover increased by 15.3% compared to April 2020 but decreased by 31.9% compared to May 2019, reaching USD 229.59 million.
Bags, suitcases, umbrellas exported to more than 30 major markets in the world; in which, exports to the US reached the largest turnover, reaching USD 489.35 million, accounting for 38.2% of the total export turnover of this group of the country, down 23% over the same period last year. Particularly in May 2020, it reached USD 77.84 million, up 20.9% compared to April 2020 but down 45.4% compared to the same month last year.
Japan ranked second in turnover, reaching USD 160.22 million, accounting for 12.5%, down 3.7%; Next is the Netherlands market accounting for 7.6% of the total turnover, reaching USD 96.86 million, down 14.7% over the same period.
In general, the export of bags, suitcases and umbrellas in the first 5 months of 2020 to most markets decreased in turnover over the same period in 2019, in which the market decreased sharply in markets such as Czech: 70.7 %, reaching USD 0.56 million; Norway decreased by 49.9%, reaching USD 1.54 million; Argentina decreased by 39%, reaching USD 0.78 million;
However, exports still increased sharply in some markets such as: Nigeria increased by 468.4%, reaching USD 5.42 million; Mexico increased 79.3%, reaching USD 10.65 million; Brazil increased by 38.7%, reaching USD 5.97 million.
