Hapag-Lloyd, the world's leading container shipping company, has announced its unaudited preliminary financial results for the 2024 financial year, reporting strong performance driven by increased volumes and stable freight rates.
Key Highlights:
EBITDA and EBIT Profit: Group EBITDA reached USD 5.0 billion (EUR 4.6 billion), while EBIT increased to USD 2.8 billion (EUR 2.6 billion), slightly above the previous year and within the high end of the adjusted profit forecast.
- Volume: Hapag-Lloyd transported approximately 12.5 million TEU in 2024, up 5% year-on-year, despite challenges from rerouting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope due to the unstable security situation in the Red Sea.
- Freight rates: Average freight rates remained at USD 1,492/TEU, similar to the previous year.
- Revenue: Total revenue increased to USD 20.7 billion (EUR 19.1 billion), driven by increased demand for container shipping.
Success Factors:
This positive result was mainly due to increased volumes and stable freight rates. At the same time, Hapag-Lloyd's ability to respond to geopolitical challenges and high operational efficiency also helped maintain positive business results.
Hapag-Lloyd will release its full audited financial statements for 2024 along with its business outlook for 2025 on 20 March 2025.
