Hurricane Milton: Florida Ports Close; South Carolina Restricts Shipping
Ports in Florida and South Carolina have taken precautions, including closures and shipping restrictions, in response to the approaching Hurricane Milton.

Most Florida ports, including Tampa and Sarasota, closed to all shipping on October 8 in preparation for Milton, according to Reuters.
In addition, some ports in South Carolina, such as Charleston, have begun implementing shipping restrictions.
JAXPORT said in a statement that cargo operations to its main ports will stop at 10 a.m. local time on October 9 and the port will be completely closed thereafter. JAXPORT will also be closed on October 10.
The port plans to reopen its Main Gate on Friday morning (October 11), pending the completion of a facility assessment.
According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Milton weakened to a Category 4 storm, moving east-northeast on Tuesday with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph (230 km/h) before making landfall in Florida on Wednesday.
