Madrid Bridge ship of ONE suffered a stack collapse and lost at least 30 containers
ONE's Madrid Bridge was suffered a stack collapse last Friday and at least 30 containers on board fell into the North Atlantic Ocean.

ONE (Ocean Network Express), Singapore-based shipping line, reported that its 13,900 teu Madrid Bridge vessel was suffered a stack collapse. According to the latest reports, at least 30 containers on board were lost.
WK Webster survey said: "It is not currently clear how extensive the collapse of stow is, but it is reported that the vessel lost at least 30 containers overboard."
It's not clear what happened to the container closure incident last Friday, but the ship continued westward to its destination New York. AIS data from VesselsValue shows the ship moving at 12 kts, 2,500 km from the port.
Madrid Pier operates on ONE's East Coast 4 (EC4) service. ONE said: “Our immediate priorities are to ensure the safety of the crew, the vessel and the cargo on board. Delays to the vessel’s schedule are expected."
ONE added that an investigation into the cause and extent of the damage has begun.
The Madrid Bridge, built in 2018, is owned by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K Line). The P&I insurer for the ship was P&I Club Japan according to Equasis data.
Late 2020/early 2021 the maritime industry has seen a number of container incidents that have also caused heavy losses. The container collapses included the ONE Apus vessel losing 1,816 containers in the Pacific at the end of 2020 and Maersk's Maersk Essen losing 750 containers also in the Pacific Ocean in January 2021. This has raised concerns about the high quality and safety of goods on very-large and ultra-large containerships in inclement weather.
