Maersk will open a new service called TP28 to connect Vietnam and China with the US East Coast. This is an effort by Maersk to meet increased cargo demand during the pandemic and improve schedule reliability.
This weekly TP28 service will mainly deploy 4,500 TEU vessels, calling at ports including: Vung Tau, Yantian, Ningbo and Shanghai with transit through the Panama Canal and direct connections to Houston and Norfolk.
The itinerary of TP28 service will be as follows:
Vung Tau (Vietnam) - Yantian (China) - Ninhbo (China) - Shanghai (China) - Houston (Texas, US) - Norfolk (Virginia, US)
The maiden voyage of the new service, operated by the Danish shipping line, is scheduled to begin on March 23 with the 2010-built Maersk Wallis set to depart from the Vietnamese port of Vung Tau.
The launch of the TP28 service coincides with the routing changes of another service on Maersk's trans-Pacific service, the TP20 service. This service calls directly to Jakarta port, instead of Vung Tau.
The itinerary of TP20 service will be adjusted as follows:
Jakarta (Indonesia) - Yantian (China) - Ningbo (China) - Shanghai (China) - Charleston (South Carolina) - Newark (New Jersey)
In addition, Maersk said it intends to gradually increase the size of vessels deployed on the TP20 service, from 4,500 TEU to 6,500 TEU.
