Navigating Market Instability, COSCO Shipping Posts Impressive Profit Growth in H1 2025
COSCO Shipping Holdings has announced impressive revenue and profit growth for the first six months of 2025, despite a volatile and uncertain global container shipping market.
COSCO Shipping Holdings has just released its consolidated financial report for the first six months of 2025, recording revenue growth in both of its core business segments: container shipping and port operations.
The company achieved an operating revenue of CNY 109.1 billion (approximately USD 15.3 billion), an increase of 7.78% compared to the same period last year. Its net profit reached approximately CNY 20.21 billion, a rise of 4.95%.
Broken down by segment, revenue from container shipping operations reached CNY 104.8 billion, up 7.49% year-on-year. Notably, the container terminal business segment recorded impressive growth of 14.75%, achieving revenues of CNY 5.84 billion.
"In the first half of 2025, the demand and freight rates of global container shipping market remained volatile amid multiple factors such as the tariff swings and lingering geopolitical tensions," a company representative stated. "In the face of highly uncertain external environment, Cosco Shipping Holdings proactively identified and responded to changes. While driving steady enhancement in operating efficiency, it leveraged its two new growth drivers, digital intelligence and green low-carbon development, to expedite the synergetic development of core container shipping business and digital supply chain business."
After taking delivery of several ordered vessels, the company's self-operated fleet now consists of 557 ships with a total capacity of over 3.4 million TEU. The company's newbuild orderbook has a total capacity of nearly 910,000 TEU, solidifying its leading industry position in terms of transport capacity.
The company's main business operations remained stable during the first six months. The container shipping segment handled 13.28 million TEU, an increase of 6.59% year-on-year. Shipping volumes on the Transpacific, Asia-Europe, Intra-Asia, other international routes (including Africa/Latin America), and domestic China routes increased by 4.72%, 3.88%, 5.21%, 11.95%, and 9.53%, respectively.
"Looking ahead, the container shipping industry is expected to remain complex and volatile. The domino effects of economic and trade policies coupled with ongoing geopolitical tensions, the reshaping of competitive landscape triggered by technological and green transformation, and the frequent occurrence of various unforeseen events, all may have a profound impact on the overall market development," the company stated.
