OOCL Durban destroys two cranes at the port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Yesterday, a giant gantry crane collapsed on another crane at Taiwan's largest port when a container ship approached too close to a smaller vessel moored while docked.

The accident, which was captured on video, happened at 11:30 a.m. local time on June 3 at the port of Kaohsiung.
One person was injured and two were trapped in the wreckage when the 8,540 TEU container ship OOCL Durban collided with a crane at No.70 Yangming Wharf at the port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, causing two cranes to collapse in place.
According to reports, one worker was injured and two others were trapped in the rubble after the crane collapsed, but they were all rescued after 75 minutes.
The OOCL Durban, owned by Nissen Kaiun of Japan, entered the wrong port, collided with a smaller cargo ship of Yang Ming shipping line, and rammed two gantry cranes and a number of containers loaded on the shore, causing a crash mess.
According to the Kaohsiung Port Authority, the ship approached the port too close, and the Air Traffic Control Agency repeatedly warned the ship without receiving a response.
In the video, it appears the crane also destroyed some containers while it was parked, during which time another smaller container ship was also seen lying between the OOCL Durban and the harbour, but it is not yet clear if it was damaged in the accident.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and is under investigation. In addition, initial damage is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, according to local reports.
