OOCL orders 14 methanol-fueled container ships as part of major fleet expansion
OOCL is spending $3.08 billion to build 14 methanol-fueled container ships, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its fleet and transitioning to clean energy in the shipping industry.

Orient Overseas (International) Limited (OOCL) has signed a contract to build 14 new container ships equipped with dual-fuel methanol engines, marking a major step in the company's fleet expansion strategy.
The deal announced today is worth a total of $3.08 billion, or $220 million per ship. The ships will be built at two shipyards in Nantong and Dalian, both part of the COSCO Shipping Group ecosystem.
Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), one of the world's largest container shipping lines, is a subsidiary of Orient Overseas (International) Limited, majority owned by COSCO Shipping. The investment in methanol-powered container vessels demonstrates OOCL's strong commitment to energy transition and sustainable development, in line with the trend of decarbonization in the global shipping industry.
