Port of Melbourne sees container volumes increase in September
The Port of Melbourne recorded growth in both import and export container volumes in September 2024, despite a decline in empty containers..webp)
In September 2024, total container throughput the Port of Melbourne increased compared to September 2023, reaching 284,000 TEU.
Full container imports (excluding Bass Strait) increased year-on-year, with furniture, household appliances and cardboard all seeing strong volumes.
Full container exports (excluding Bass Strait) also increased year-on-year, with notable figures for cotton, timber, hay, chaff & feed and wheat.
However, the number of empty containers moving through the port decreased in September compared to the same month last year.
