Port of Savannah: Volume Surpasses Half a Million TEUs for Third Consecutive Month
The Port of Savannah continues its strong growth momentum, recording its third consecutive month of volume surpassing the half-million TEU mark, underscoring the effectiveness of strategic infrastructure investments.

The Port of Savannah handled 500,900 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in May 2025, marking the third consecutive month the port has surpassed the half-million TEU mark.
This represents a 2.2% year-over-year increase, or 10,565 additional TEUs compared to May 2024. May 2025 is also the second busiest May in the Port of Savannah’s history, trailing only May 2022 with a volume of nearly 519,400 TEUs.
Griff Lynch, President and CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), noted that GPA has strategically increased its port capacity to better meet the changing needs of its customers. One of the key developments is the Garden City West Terminal, which is specifically designed for long-term storage of import and export cargo, providing shippers with greater flexibility in managing supply chain fluctuations.
GPA Board Chairman Kent Fountain noted that in the past ten years alone, they have invested $3.2 billion in infrastructure to support the economic vitality of the state of Georgia.
Year-to-date in fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024, through May 31, 2025), the Port of Savannah handled 5.3 million TEUs, reflecting an increase of 10.3%, or 493,635 TEUs, compared to the same period in fiscal year 2024.
