Reliability of container shipping schedule dramatically improves in February
According to Sea Intelligence analysts, Maersk and MSC ranked first in terms of scheduled reliability among container carriers in February.
With the easing of supply chain bottlenecks, the reliability of container shipping lines is improving significantly across the board.
SeaIntel's global ship performance report shows schedule reliability increased by 7.7% from January to February this year to 60.2%. The reliability of the annual schedule has increased by 26% compared to the same month of 2022. The report covers more than 60 shipping lines on 34 different shipping routes worldwide.
Among the top 14 carriers, the most reliable are Maersk and MSC with schedule reliability of 64.9% and 64.4% respectively. Hamburg Sud - a brand that is set to disappear and become a part of Maersk - is the only other carrier that manages schedule reliability above 60%.
The remaining 11 carriers in the top 14 all have schedule reliability in the range of 50 - 60%, of which the lowest reliability is ZIM with 52% schedule reliability.
“On a year-on-year level, all carriers recorded double-digit improvements in schedule reliability in February 2023, with Wan Hai recording the largest improvement of 36.2 percentage points,” noted SeaIntel CEO Alan Murphy.
