Schedule reliability of container shipping lines drops to record low in January 2022
The reliability of container shipping lines in January 2022 decreased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous month to 30.9%. This is a record low since Sea-Intelligence began measuring in 2011.
Schedule reliability of container shipping lines was record low in January 2022
Sea-Intelligence has published the Global Liner Performance (GLP) report No. 126, with schedule reliability figures through the end of January 2022. Sea-Intelligence has been based on the schedule reliability data on 34 different commercial shipping routes for more than 60 global container carriers.
According to this report by Sea-Intelligence, the reliability of the schedule in January 2022 again decreased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous month to 30.9%. This is the lowest ever global schedule confidence level since Sea-Intelligence began measuring in 2011.
On a year-over-year level, Sea-Intelligence reported that: "schedule reliability was down -3.8 percentage points. Despite the low schedule reliability since January 2021, there hasn’t been much fluctuation, with the global scores largely between 30%-40%. The average delay for late vessel arrivals decreased slightly to 7.38 days, the sixth consecutive month with the delay figure above 7 days".

According to the the report, Sea-Intelligence pointed out that: "Maersk was once again the most reliable top-14 carrier in January 2022, with schedule reliability of 46.9%". Next is Hamburg Süd with 42.8%. MSC and HMM have schedule reliability between 30%-40% and there are six other carriers with schedule reliability between 20%-30%.
The remaining four container lines have schedule reliability below 20%, with Evergreen being recorded with the lowest schedule reliability in January 2022, at only 15.0%, according to Sea-Intelligence. .
During January 2022, ten carriers recorded an improvement in month-to-month schedule reliability, and five recorded an improvement in year-over-year schedule reliability. However, three shipping lines have recorded double-digit annual schedule reliability declines, according to Sea-Intelligence.
