Shanghai Port returning to normal operation
Operations at the port of Shanghai are returning to normal as the city's lockdown eases.

CMA CGM said in its latest customer announcement that the pressure on resources at the port of Shanghai is easing, in addition, waiting times for ships in the Waigaoqiao port area have shortened due to more port employees resume work.
GEODIS - French logistics group - noted that as Shanghai's number of Covid-19 infections dropped to hundreds in mid-May, the world's largest container port Shanghai is returning to normal operations. Commercial operations and public transport have gradually resumed since mid-May, after the start of the blockade on March 28.
GEODIS said, “The exclusive lockdown campaign in Waigaoqiao ended. Consequently, facilities such as container freight stations and container depots associated to Waigaoqiao have gradually gone back to normal in the past week. As a result, the traffic congestion in the Yangshan area has been relieved."
A commentary from VesselsValue, May 27, says that congestion in Shanghai remains at a year-long high, but is slowly normalizing as the Covid-19 outbreak subsides.
The average wait time for container ships in Shanghai has now fallen to 36 hours, from a peak of 69 hours in late April, but still about 13 hours higher than the same period in 2021.
On May 26, China's Ministry of Transport held a press conference in which the deputy director of transportation services, Li Huaqiang, said that in the last week, Shanghai's container throughput has recovered to 95 .3% compared to the pre-Covid-19 level.
Trucking volumes, affected by Covid-19 testing between cities, have also rebounded to 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
"Today, our efforts at facilitating logistics are gradually moving from opening up the main artery to smoothing out the fine details. In the next step, the ministry will focus on improving logistical efficiencies, protecting people’s livelihoods, and reducing burdens. We will provide more support to maintain economic and social stability.” said Li.
