Strike at the port of Montreal in Canada
The Marine Employers Association (MEA) in the Port of Montreal in Canada said the strike began on July 27, at 7 am local time and continued until 7 am on July 31.

The strike action will only affect container shipping at the port, hindering the handling of cargo of all types of containers for export and import.
In a statement, MEA said mooring services ordinarily provided by longshoremen would be suspended, but the handling of liquid bulk and services of Oceanex at Bickerdike Terminal and the grain terminal (Viterra) will not be affected.
"These pressure tactics, carried out by the Syndicat des Débardeurs C.U.P.E. Local 375, will last for four days. As a result, the Port of Montreal and its partners expect to return to normal starting Friday, July 31 at 7:00 a.m. The necessary efforts will be made to make up for the delays caused by this exceptional situation," said a Port of Montreal statement.
Hapag-Lloyd container lines provided the following service information on July 27:
- The Barcelona Express 42E30 ship, currently docked, will try to load the maximum cargo and depart before the strike begins.
- The Liverpool Express 08W28 and the Ottawa Express 13W29 will arrive at the port as planned, once the strike operation ends on next Friday.
- OOCL Montreal 29W29 will delay docking from Tuesday to Friday. As a result, ships may experience delays and congestion at ports when releasing goods.
"All efforts will be made to make up for any delays that will be caused by this exceptional situation. In the meantime, we will keep you informed of any developments as they occur" said the German carrier.
