THE Alliance extends suspension period for some services
Container shipping alliance THE Alliance (THEA) has announced a further extension of suspension into next year for some services on the Pacific and Asia–Europe routes.

According to analyst Alphaliner, THEA's suspended services under its "Winter Program" are specifically the FE5 service, from Southeast Asia to Northern Europe, which was suspended in November, and the PS5 service, from the Far East to California, suspended in September, will remain suspended until further notice. THEA includes shipping lines Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Yang Ming and ONE.
According to Alphaliner: “This capacity management scheme will be extended further into 2024 than originally planned and the THEA partners said it would remain in place ‘until further notice'.”
EC4 service from Asia to the US east coast was also suspended in November but restored on THEA's enhanced east–west service network from April the following year.
Due to the impact of the Panama Canal, which is currently operating with severe restrictions due to low water levels, transits are reduced to 24 per day compared to the normal level of 34 – 36 per day.
Alphaliner said these services are currently being diverted to the Suez Canal route and may have to bypass the Cape of Good Hope in Africa due to security issues in the southern Red Sea.
