US-Mexico Trade Rises to $74 Billion in May
Mexico Rises to Top US Trading Partner in May, as New Investments in Logistics and Manufacturing Reinforce Nearshoring Trend

US-Mexico trade rose to $74 billion in May, driven by shipments of computers, automobiles and auto parts to the United States, making Mexico the top US trading partner in May with a total of $74.5 billion, according to Census Bureau data analyzed by WorldCity.
That was up 2% from the same month in May 2024 and up 7% from April.
Canada ranked second in trade with the United States in May with $57.6 billion, and China ranked third with $27 billion.
Mexico's exports to the United States totaled $46.4 billion in May, up 5% year-over-year, while imports from the United States to Mexico fell 3% year-over-year to $28.2 billion.
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport was the nation's No. 1 international gateway for trade, with $35.8 billion in total trade in May.
The port of entry in Laredo, Texas, was the No. 2 U.S. trade gateway in May, compared to Laredo's No. 1 trade gateway in 2024. Trade there totaled $30.4 billion for the month, up 4% year-over-year.
John F. Kennedy International Airport was the No. 3 U.S. international trade gateway in May, with $26.3 billion in total trade.
The top U.S. imports from Mexico in May were computers ($7.2 billion), cars and trucks ($4 billion), and auto parts ($3 billion). The top U.S. exports to Mexico in the month were gasoline and other fuels ($2.2 billion), computer components ($2 billion), and auto parts ($1.7 billion).
