Hapag-Lloyd Adjusts and Raises Freight Rates on India and Pakistan to Europe Trades

Following the ongoing trend of rate adjustments across international trade lanes, Hapag-Lloyd has unveiled a new tariff schedule for cargo originating in India and Pakistan bound for Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. The revised rates will take effect for all vessel departures starting August 1, 2026.

Rate Adjustments at Indian Ports

For cargo loaded at the Nhava Sheva and Mundra port clusters, the carrier will implement a base rate hike of $2,000 per container. The new tariff structure is detailed as follows:

●    Northern Europe-bound routes: Rates will stand at $5,253 per 20-foot dry container and $4,556 per 40-foot dry container.

●    Mediterranean-bound routes: Shipments will see rates rise correspondingly to $5,358 per 20-foot container and $4,696 per 40-foot container.

Rate Adjustments at Pakistani Ports

For the Pakistani market, shipments departing from the ports of Karachi and Port Qasim will face an increase of $1,500 per container. The new base freight rates are recorded as follows:

●    Northern Europe-bound routes: Freight charges will reach $4,593 per 20-foot dry container and $4,236 per 40-foot dry container.

●    Mediterranean-bound routes: Tariffs will be adjusted upward to $4,548 per 20-foot container and $4,396 per 40-foot container.

Effective for Vessel Departures on or After August 1, 2026

According to Hapag-Lloyd, the revised tariffs will be applied uniformly to all shipments within the scope of this advisory, based on an estimated vessel departure date of August 1, 2026, onwards.

This pricing adjustment comes as global ocean carriers continue to review and update their rate policies to counteract escalating operational costs, navigate shifting transport demand on Asia-Europe trade lanes, and manage prolonged volatility in the international container shipping market.
